Believe me, I have listened, watched, questioned and researched people who have the power in and out of politics, my entire life. I have had the opportunity to spend time working amongst, in my opinion, some of the worst and best local politicians we have. But, they are NOT all the same, but, if we carry on the path of lack of trust and disengagement that we are on, they might as well be.
It is up to US to choose THEM.
In a few weeks time we will have the opportunity to have our voices heard in this country again, after many years of being hoodwinked and brushed aside by a faction of our society that has been bought up to believe that they are the only people that can run this country. Blinkered and bred to believe that they have some divine right to prosper and thrive (and I am being generous) at the expense of lesser mortals Lesser mortals like you and I and the people in our communities just trying to survive.
It is up to US to choose THEM.
With all the rhetoric and petty games that are being played out between those who have the power and those who want it, how can we be sure that we will get the politicians that we NEED? The ones that we need if we are to become the balanced, happy, healthy, stable society that we crave and deserve.
The ravages of covid, austerity, economic collapse, conflicts at home and abroad, not to mention the impending climate catastrophe, have all left wounds in our society allowing a poisonous and dangerous state of mind to seep in. Apathy, loss of control, and dog eat dog attitudes have infected all our lives. But the damage we are doing to our society must stop – we can not sustain this level of stress much longer. check out the statistics on mental health, especially those of our children. Each one of those statistics is someone’s child, grandchild, niece or nephew. We are living in a state that is HURTING those who we are biologically programmed to protect. How can this be the right way to live? destroying our most precious thing in life – our children.
So, whatever your party affiliations, whatever your culture, religion or nationality – BEFORE you make your decision at the ballot box this summer – turn off the tv, put down the newspaper, stop scrolling and ask yourself WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR OUR COUNTRY AND YOUR FAMILY AND COMMUNITY?
Then, ask those who are asking you for your vote the same question.
What do they want for our communities? and most importantly…
How do they intend to us the power that we give then to do this?
Ask them if they can explain why our children are some of the most UNhappy children in the World, and if it interests you, why we have some of the lowest scores in international student tests. If they don’t understand why or blame it on bad behaviour the think carefully before you vote for them. They clearly don’t understand the problem.
Then, feel free to ask them why ordinary people can no longer afford to have a place to live and put food on the table. Basic survival. Ask them who is responsible to make sure we can all survive and thrive. If they answer anything except ‘a collective responsibility’ then ask them why we have bothered to evolve into a species with the ability to communicate in sophisticated ways, with the emotional capacity to appreciate how others are feeling and with the ability to experience sheer joy when watching our children play and grow.
We are a species that looks after each other for a reason, until recently is has done us well, we have survived so far, the most successful survival on the planet some would say.
But the altruistic, selfish poisonous infection that has been allowed to take over our governments threatens that very survival. We may only be seeing the small steps of self destruction now, but what about tomorrow, the day after tomorrow and the day after that?
It all sounds dramatic, put like that, but it is so important that we challenge those seeking our vote to show us that they do understand what is at stake, and that they are prepared to make the changes that will benefit us all.
This is OUR country, our community, our society and WE have a responsibility to choose those people who will represent us properly, to make sure that they are not all the same.
Don’t just TICK THE BOX
Ask the questions first
It is up to US to choose THEM.
Our children are telling us – it really does Matter.
